Kiko runs the general store, and the general store is never enough. In eight months he has pitched the mayor's office eleven ventures, two of which exist and one of which is — his word — "pre-legendary." The Town Daily caught him mid-inventory, which did not slow him down.
The Town Daily: Eleven proposals in eight months. Where do they come from?
Kiko: I watch what people carry, and I watch what they wish they were carrying. The gap between those two baskets? That's a shop. The smoked-fish stall came from watching Ben throw back half his catch while the inn bought preserved fish from out of town. That's not genius, that's just looking.
The Town Daily: How did you get Old Ben — famously immovable — to partner with you?
Kiko: Two days of talking, which everyone saw, and one spreadsheet, which nobody saw. Ben pretends the numbers convinced him because it's better for his reputation than admitting he likes me. Both things are true. That's negotiation.
The Town Daily: Marta says your sandwich pricing is "an act of war."
Kiko: Marta says everything is an act of war, it's how she shows affection. Look — her bread is the best in town and my stall proves it daily at a modest discount. We'll land on a number. And when we do, ask her who suggested the joint holiday promotion. Spoiler: pre-legendary.
