The Town Daily
Every night at 22:00 the presses cough once and the whole town finds out what it already suspected. June just wrote it down first.
THE TOWN DAILY runs on one reporter, one lamp, and a deadline that never moves: 22:00, ink still tacky, thrown warm onto every doorstep. June writes all of it — the tide tables Old Ben dictates from memory, the bread prices that shift whenever Marta and Kiko are feuding (which is always), the lost-goat notices Wren phrases too kindly to be useful. She swears the paper is the town's official voice and its longest memory, and she isn't wrong: if it isn't in the Daily, folks argue over whether it happened at all.
Her secret engine is the inn. Otto, who forgets nothing and misses less, feeds her the good stuff from behind his counter, and in exchange gets his name spelled right and his rumors dignified into 'sources.' Read the back page carefully and you'll catch what June is really working on: a slow, patient column watching Kiko's ledger of empty lots, and a standing joke about Cori — every farewell edition printing 'her last visit,' every third week printing her return. Nib once offered to 'improve' the press. June threw him out. The presses have run clean ever since, except the seventh copy each night, which for reasons no one will explain smells faintly of woodsmoke.
